I Don't Want to be a Frog!On April 30 Brookline Rotary, with a grant from the Chobee Hoy Group at Compass, will begin distributing free children's books to residents of Brookline Housing Authority.  A range of books for each reading level from kindergarten through fourth grade are being selected and provided by Coolidge Corner Booksmith and the Children's Book Shop, Brookline's two independent book stores.  Books will be distributed outside three Brookline Housing Authority (BHA) sites on three consecutive Fridays immediately following the Brookline Thrives van.

It has been a very difficult year for everyone.  Like many organizations this past year, Brookline Rotary has focused most of its efforts on addressing food security, but we have always had a focus on literacy and programs that support our youth.  This grant from the Chobee Hoy Group at Compass allows us to provide this gift to children who may not have the disposable income to allow the purchase of the "luxury" item of a book.  Yet ownership of a book can provide a child with joy, pride and motivation to read -- a life-altering activity.  Past Brookline Rotary youth/literacy projects have included BHS scholarships, computers for BHA, equipment for the Teen Center's Maker Space, and others.
