Alberta Lipson is “very modest about her volunteer work so it is hard to get her to sit down and describe it,” says her husband Roger.  Both are members of Brookline Rotary.  “Alberta was a Food Pantry volunteer for many years," Roger continued, “and is currently serving as a Select Board appointed member of the Council on Aging."

Recently, Alberta was given a special Volunteer award at the CERT/MRC Volunteer Appreciation Celebration and Awards Ceremony. She was given this award for her long-time service of over 15 years for both the CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Team) and MRC (the Medical Reserve Corps) — donning her backpack for service at any hour, even in the middle of the night.

Both CERT and MRC respond to emergency situations in the Brookline Community, such as setting up shelters when there has been a fire; working at Marathon Reception Centers ever since the terrible bombing that took place in 2015; helping out at Town Flu Clinics; and helping out at Town Events like Brookline Day.  She is also now a member of BARC (Brookline Animal Response Crew) that has been recently set up.

Alberta’s kind manner and her quiet dedication continue to be an inspiration for many of us in Brookline Rotary.
