In celebration of International Day of Peace, the Peace Working Group headed by Brookline Rotary presented a very moving public event in September, helping us understand the human cost of conflict.

The program featured two women sharing their stories of living in an active war zone, trying to keep themselves and their families safe, literally under fire.

  • Marina Radueva, Brookline Resident, Born and Raised in Chechnya During War
  • Suheir Freitekh, Rotary Peace Fellow, Resident of Ramallah, Palestine

The program was moderated by Rotarian Bernard Greene and produced in the studios of the Brookline Interactive Group, Brookline's local cable TV affiliate.  A recording of the program is available on YouTube.

We closed with one mother asking the other, “Where is your son now?”  The healing begins when we care for each other.  Everyone appreciated this opportunity to learn, grow, and act as Rotarians and as members of a global community.

The Peace Working Group includes Rotary Peace Scholar Frances Jeffires; the Rotary clubs of Needham, Cambridge; and Rotarians from a number of other clubs in the area.  All are welcome to join.  All working group meetings are on Zoom.
